State Climate Action Plan

Campeche has a State Action Plan on Climate Change which outlines its vision through 2030, including conserving, restoring and managing ecosystems.   The action plan aims to have 80% of its territory under protection by 2030, turn the LULCF sector to carbon positive (absorbing 2,000,000 tc02eq), and increase investment in mitigation activities.[2]

Ecological Zoning

In Campeche ecological zoning (Ordenamiento Ecológico)  is an environmental policy tool used to regulate land use, protect the environment, and preserve the sustainable use of natural resources.  Zoning is carried out at the municipal level, with plans completed for Calakmul, Campeche, and Champoton[4]

Early REDD+ Actions

Campeche is part of the Emissions Reduction Initiative (IRE) through the FCPF CF and considered an early action state (ATREDD+) by the federal government.  The state was the first in Mexico to complete a REDD+ Strategy.[6]

REDD+ Programs

At the level of the YUCATAN PENINSULA: The three states are promoting a Regional Climate Change Initiative that includes a REDD + Program for the three states, in coordination with CONAFOR.
In the second half of 2012, the REDD + Regional Strategy for the Yucatan Peninsula was presented through a series of institutional and community workshops in the three states to establish the axes and lines of action to be implemented in REDD + areas.
In March 2013, the preparation and design of a regional strategy for adaptation to climate change was initiated, resulting from the Yucatan Peninsula Regional Agreement signed in Cancún at COP 16. With the participation of authorities and institutions from the 3 States , The first workshop was held with key stakeholders to assess progress, identify existing inputs and those required to design the route for the construction of a Regional Adaptation Strategy.
In September 2015, the State Program for Climate Change (PECC), the Campeche REDD + Strategy and the Campeche Biodiversity Strategy were published in the Official State Newspaper.

Decree 145/2008 - State Law on Sustainable Forest Development

Serves to regulate and promote the conservation, protection, restoration, management and use of forest resources; establishes the state forest inventory; and provides provisions for the organization and training of farmers and promotion of investments needed to encourage sustainable forest development in the State of Campeche. 

Decree 271/2009 - Law creating the State Forestry Commission

Establishes general guidelines for the conservation , protection, and sustainable management of forests in Campeche while establishing the State Forestry Commission and State Forestry State Forestry Program. 

Decree 182/2002 - Wildlife Act of the State of Campeche.

Establishes standards for the protection and conservation of wildlife habitat, in accordance with the General Wildlife law
